Today even the simplest smartphone has some fast-charging technology. However, we still have a lot of phones in our pocket that, right off the bat, have decided that they are going to take forever to charge. Do not give in to the whims of your device and fix this problem immediately.

If your mobile takes forever to recharge and you are constantly connected to the socket, we have to find the root of the slow charging problem . Most likely, your phone suffers from a software failure but, don't worry, in case the origin of your headache is more physical, there are also possibilities to fix it.

Why is the mobile charging slow?

At this time we have to find out if the problem is in the configuration of the mobile or in the hardware we use to charge the device. If this is the case, the failure may be in the mobile battery itself or in the motherboard, something that will make us go through a repair center, or in the charger or the cable that we use to power the phones.

In general, time is the worst ally for charging and the autonomy of a battery, since a cell that is more than two years old will not work like the first day. If this is not your case, we will try to try the following solutions.

Possible solutions to the problem

Leave the mobile alone

In many cases, the poor performance of the battery, either at the autonomy or charge level, is simply due to an excess of applications running on the phone. Apps on Android frequently start automatically or run as a background process after opening only briefly. This significantly increases the use of system resources and affects battery behavior.

The simplest solution is to close all the apps you have open and, if possible, stop using the mobile while it charges.  If you notice that a certain app has a bad habit of running when it shouldn't, consider uninstalling it.

Bad update

Have you recently downloaded and installed a new system update on your mobile, only to see that your phone charges much slower? Most likely, in this case, there is a technical problem in the software.

Usually, new updates are sent to improve the performance of the phones; however, errors may occur during the installation process or there may be an error in the software that is causing this failure. In this case you can hold on until the brand releases a patch that fixes the problem or go back to a previous Android version .

Cable or charger problem

The most common culprit in the case of a slow charging phone is its charging kit. The USB cable may lose contact due to a weak connector or it is worn out and no longer works optimally. The same is true of the adapter, which may have been damaged by a power surge resulting in a malfunction.

When this happens, just try charging the phone with another USB cable / adapter and see if it works fine. If now the smartphone charges correctly the charging kit is the problem, and you should buy a new one. Of course, we recommend that you buy original accessories that have been specifically designed for your phone.

Is the loading port clean?

As a phone is stored in a purse or pocket, it can easily be damaged by any lint, dust, or dirt. Depending on how you use the mobile, it will get more or less dirty, but the ports are usually the main victims of dust.

Put a light source near the USB connector and take a look to determine if there are any foreign objects in it. If there is, try to blow it, use an air bulb or extract it with a needle with great care. A clean, dry toothbrush can also be used.

Weak power source

Where you connect your phone matters as much as how you do it. If you connect your Android device to a computer or an external battery, it will never charge as fast as if you charge it using a  wall socket.

Damaged battery

Nowadays, smartphones have a unibody design and do not allow us to know the physical state of the battery visually, but we can tell if the mobile is swollen. With a swollen battery, we are no longer just talking about your Android not charging quickly, but you may be exposing yourself to unnecessary risks and you should take the phone to repair or change the battery yourself.

If you do not notice that it is swollen, you can always charge it to 100% and see how long it takes to discharge. If it is half depleted in a short period of time, you will need to change the battery.

Calibrate the battery

Calibrating the battery  can make it charge faster and forget about inherited errors after continued use over time. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Connect the mobile to the charger until it is fully charged and wait a few more minutes
  2. When it is completely unplugged and use it until the battery is completely discharged and the smartphone turns off.
  3. Leave the mobile without charge for 5-6 hours (you can take advantage of one night) so that any type of residual charge is eliminated.
  4. After waiting, fully charge the battery again and see if it reaches the maximum level.

Restore the device

Just as the phone's battery has "memory", so does the mobile. Therefore, if there is a bad configuration or an app is hindering the normal load of the device, it is advisable to return it to its original state by restoring the factory, not without first making a backup copy of all the data as it will be lost in the process.

Once they are safe, access the System, Backup and Restore options and select Erase everything. Wait for the mobile to restart, configured as a new device and check if it charges well. If not, you should take the phone for repair.

oneplus chargers

Always use original components to charge your device. Even if you have several chargers at home, not all of them can use the same charging technologies and this, in the long run, can end up damaging the phone as well as its internal components. If you lose the charger, worry about using the original as you should do with the cable.
